Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb potatoes preferably baby gold or red potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric for boiling
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder preferably powder vs. fresh
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt adjust to taste

Instructions
 

Precook Potatoes

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F (or oven to 425°F) and use roast setting if available.
  • Wash and dry potatoes thoroughly. If using medium-sized potatoes, quarter them. If using small potatoes, use them as-is.
  • Parboil: Cover potatoes with salted water and 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Cook on medium-high heat for about 20 minutes.
  • Air Fry: Add potatoes to air fryer and cook for 15-20 minutes at 400°F or until fully cooked.
  • If a fork passes easily through the potatoes, they are done. Drain and cool if parboiling.

Prepare Seasoning

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of red chili powder with 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Pour half the oil mixture on the potatoes and coat them well.

Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes

  • Transfer potatoes into the air fryer basket with sufficient spacing.
  • Using a fork or masher, smash the potatoes to about ½ inch thick.
  • Air fry for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Oven Baked Smashed Potatoes

  • Place the potatoes on a baking sheet with sufficient space.
  • Smash the potatoes gently to ensure the skin loosens and breaks.
  • Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serving Instructions

  • Serve hot out of the air fryer or oven, optionally topped with fresh herbs or cheese.

Notes

Use baby gold or red potatoes for the best texture. Roasting times may vary depending on the air fryer or oven model.
